The FST Program
The FST program functions under the Canada Express Entry selection system (2018 onwards) which offers immigrants who have the potential and are qualified in skilled trade an opportunity to become a permanent resident of Canada. The Canadian government started the Federal Skills Trade program to ensure that there is no shortage of skilled workers in sectors that were experiencing rapid growth because of the developing economy. this program was developed upon requests from Canadian business owners and employers as they were facing a lack of sufficient skilled workers which resulted in the delay of work completion or suspension of work.
Eligibility for the Federal Skilled Trades program
An applicant has to be aware of the factors in the eligibility criteria and has to meet them to apply for the Federal Skilled Trades program. The applicants are evaluated for their ability to establish themselves in Canada. The eligibility criteria include the following elements:
- Language Proficiency
- Work Experience
- Skilled Trade Qualification or a Job Offer
- Satisfy Job requirements
- Work anywhere except Quebec
The Federal Skilled Trades Program Capacity
The maximum capacity for the Canada Federal Skilled Trade Program is 3000, but for many of the jobs, a maximum sub-cap of 100 is applied. To qualify for the Skilled Trades Program an applicant should be found eligible through various factors such as job offer, qualification, language proficiency, and work experience.
